Located between Crosshands & Carmarthen, it was established in 1998 by me, Marnie Venables. After finding the ideal premises and achieving a HNC in Equine Science (amongst various other Equine / BHS / NVQ qualifications) I set to work to attain my dreams of producing quality, British bred horses, that combined good conformation & talent from proven pedigrees with trainability & obliging temperaments.

The stud itself owns 110 acres of quality land. As it is situated geographically “In a bowl” it also benefits from little wind and very little freezing during the winter months. All fields and wooded areas used for grazing are stream-fed and are well-fenced or hedged. As you would expect all the horses here are cared for with 5 star treatment and are under 24-hour supervision. Stabling is of the highest quality and so are the rest of the facilities: A floodlit all weather surface school and a large floodlit round – pen. The yard is kept immaculate at all times and has a very happy down to earth atmosphere. Livery vacancies occasionally available.

Greenvale Stud all started with the Welsh Cob stallion Yorkin Napoleon, since sold on to Yorkshire and the (Cardigan bred) Thoroughbred stallion, Time Willing. He was a very lucky find for me in 2000, as his parentage includes two of the Racing greats, The Brianstan and Teenoso (Twice Derby winner). He has proved to be a wonderful stock stamper, and is the most perfect gentleman, sadly deceased in August 2010. He was the most adorable horse & is very greatly missed. Luckily his temperament & talent was passed onto all his youngstock who are out there doing superbly & flying the flag for their sire.

I spent the next 2 years selecting brood mares and the (locally bred) coloured stallion, Alderfarn VII, by Elvis the great coloured Trakehner. I felt there was a shortage of quality coloured stallions at the time that were of lighter bone and proven performance breeding.

His first progeny were born in May 2005, and amongst these were the nationally famous coloured twins Greenvale Double trouble I & II. His stock have since excelled in the Showring & he, himself is a pleasure to own & ride. Also sire of the coloured stallion Greenvale Audacity, sold to stand at stud in Yorkshire & also proving to be a successful sire of quality coloured stock. For more information on some of his successful progeny please visit his page or click on his name above.

In 2004 (whilst pregnant with my daughter) I travelled to Holland and Belgium with the view to purchase some proven Showjumping bloodlines to expand the Stud. I was graced with the luck of coming across the already AES graded and proven Jumping stallion Dick Z  by Drossan (Hannoverian) out of the International mare Quick Roxanne (who I later then bought for breeding purposes) she was by the phenomenal and World famous stallion Quick Star (Sire of twice Olympic Gold winner BIG STAR ridden by Nick Skelton) and the young 3 year old stallion, Corravale by Coriano Z (owned by Holsteiner Verband) and out of a mare by the great Landlord, This is an absolute proven cross for breeding successful Showjumpers. I also purchased some mares to add quality and performance to my growing herd, these were Carvalla, Catrina, Leylah and Vancouver H. Catrina (Cathargo Z Bloodlines) is still with us at the Stud and has produced some amazing Eventers to date. The other mares went on to enjoy performance careers after having some lovely foals.

In the following 5 years many youngsters were bred, many of which have now become Superstars. Please visit our Success stories page for more information.

2011 was a busy year, I achieved a Certificate of Competence as an Artificial Insemination Technician, which huge thanks to the wonderful team at Twemlows and with the shared knowledge and experience from their vets and the amazing Jon Pycock leading Veterinary in Equine breeding.

The International Dressage stallion Don Perry (Don Gregory) was kindly loaned to us by the Eilberg family to retire here for stud duties. He was a truly amazing stallion in his day taing Maria Eilberg to win European Team Bronze and having accumulated a phenomenal Dressage CV. In later life he was used to train a multitude of young Riders under the watchful eye of Pammy Hutton and Hilary Hughes at Talland Equestrian Centre. Don Perry produced us some lovely youngsters, we currently have a rising 2 year old for sale by him, please visit our Horse Sales pages. Don Perry is currently standing at High Hopes Stud and is still being ridden at the grand old age of 25!
